The OLEV Grant

The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) is a government grant scheme for electric car home chargers.

  • The OLEV Grant, specifically named the Electric Vehicle Home charge Scheme (EVHS), provides up to £500 off the cost of purchasing & installing a home charging point.

  • It is available for most electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars.

  • You can claim one charge point per eligible vehicle and up to two eligible vehicles per household.

How do I qualify for the OLEV Grant?

To qualify for OLEV’s EVHS grant, you need to have purchased an eligible electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle from 1st October 2016 onwards

  • You must have off-street parking.

  • You must install an OLEV-approved charge point.

  • The date of installation must not be more than 4 months ahead of the date of delivery or date the customer becomes the registered driver of the electric vehicle.

  • You must use an OLEV-approved charge point installer like ALM GRWP.

Which vehicles are eligible for the OLEV Grant?

Not all plug-in vehicles are eligible for the OLEV EVHS grant. All full battery electric vehicles are eligible, but plug-in hybrid vehicle CO2 emissions must be calculated below 75g/km.

OLEV maintains a list of those vehicles which are eligible on the GOV.UK website.

How do I claim the OLEV Grant?

The OLEV grant is claimed on your behalf by ALM GRWP. The grant contributes to the cost of the installation. We require you to complete a couple of forms to ensure you are eligible for the grant before and after the installation of your new charge point.

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a government scheme for electric vehicles offered by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).

  • The WCS reduces the purchase and installation cost of a new workplace charging station (single socket) by 75% (capped at £500 per socket).

  • A single business can claim for up to a maximum of 20 charge points (e.g. 20 single socket or 10 double socket charge points).

  • You can't retrospectively claim for existing charge points on your premises.

How do I qualify for the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)?

The WCS is available to any business, charity or public authority, with some conditions including the following:

  • You must have sufficient off-street parking.

  • While you do not need to currently have electric vehicles as part of your fleet, you will need to express an existing or future need for the business.

  • You must have the charging station installed by an OLEV-approved workplace charging station installer like ALM GRWP.

How does the Workplace Charging Scheme work?

The WCS is a voucher based system.

  • First you complete the application from OLEV. Alternatively ALM GRWP can provide the document if required.

  • If successful you will be emailed a voucher code which you can then present to your OLEV-approved installer which your installer will then use to claim the grant after the installation is complete.

  • The voucher code is valid for 120 days from the date of issue.
